Karma, a winter cinnamon by Testament London

 Karma by Testament London

Karma took a while for me to really pay attention to. Purchased in travel size on a whim, I’d pretty much given up on tobacco and vanilla fragrances figuring they’d been done to death; is there really any space for originality within this area of perfumery anymore?

But here Testament has achieved just that. Because what starts out as a fairly recognisable dna quickly comes back to layer spices upon spices taking this in a different, albeit harmonic direction.

Karma is all about the spice, and one stands out here above the clove, anise, and ginger. This beaut of a winter fragrance is a veritable cinnamon swirl (no I don’t mean it’s a pastry). Because once the tobacco, vanilla, dried fruits and cacao play out their familiar song, a cool, breath of cinnamon starts. I say cool, because it is actually pretty warming, but it has this cooling, almost mentholated effect which I imagine is the cinnamon backed up by the anise. It keeps it away from being too cloying, yet doesn’t disturb the hygge vibes. It’s at this stage you certainly understand why the gorgeous frosted dark red glass bottle was selected.

Performance is enjoyably long lived. It being an extrait, it has the customary length, but the projection is decent too with wafts of beautiful vanillery, tobacco and cinnamon swooshing around all day long.

It really is a success in my eyes and will be one I seek to wear often during the winter months.

Bottle kindly gifted by the brand.
